Iris Kaplan
Iris Kaplan, otherwise known as “Iris Sands,” created fashions for the ladies, men’s, and children’s clothing industry. She was notable for being one of the first silk designers to go to Seoul Korea. Not only did she design the clothing but created the original silk fabric designs. These items were sold throughout the United States in major retail stores.
Iris also traveled extensively though out Europe and the Far East for inspiration and to source fabrics. Design technique was growing quickly on the internet and Iris learned to implement this into her successful career. She attended Pratt Institute of Art and the Woodstock School of Fine Arts.
In 2001 Iris decided to retire to Windham N.Y. to paint, ski and play golf. She and her husband love the ambiance of the Mountaintop. Retirement was not in the picture so Iris became a Realtor and then a Broker. In 2010 Iris joined Keller Williams Capital District and is an Associate Broker.
She is the Vice President of the Windham Arts Alliance. She has served as a judge for the Sandcastle Event. She was responsible for organizing the local community drive for clothing and furnishings in Windham after Hurricane Irene. She is a very creative person and has delved into many exciting art projects always experimenting in new media and techniques. You can always count on Iris to come up with new ideas. Her artwork is her passion along with her 7 children, 12 grandchildren and her husband Allen.
